Elon Musk Says Upcoming Tesla 4 Cheaper Than Tesla 3; All The Details Here!

The Tesla 3 has not even been released yet, but Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk revealed that it might be coming out with a new electric car that's cheaper than its third model. However, there's not much fanfare about the revelation, as Musk only hinted about it while speaking at a conference in Norway.

Tesla 3 was launched in March and has exceeded its pre-order expectations. Consumers will begin receiving their orders of the electric car by 2018, but Tesla is already setting their sights on coming up with the Tesla 4.

Elon Musk 'Super Excited' For Affordable Tesla Cars

Evannex reports that Elon Musk was presenting at Norway's Future Transport Solutions conference when he mentioned about Tesla 4. "I'm super-excited about being able to produce a car that most people can afford," he said to the audience. "And there will be future cars that are even more affordable down the road," he added. "With fourth generation and smaller cars, we'll ultimately be in the position where everyone will be able to afford the car." You can watch his statement in the video at the end of this article.

Tesla 3 already has a low base price at $35,000, considering that electronic cars don't come cheap with its high performing batteries. But as Elon Musk explains, Tesla is going to produce these cars at higher volumes and if more people buy electric cars, then it would pull down the cost.

Elon Musk Hints Next Tesla Car Is Smaller, Self-Driving

While it's not yet clear if it will be called the Tesla 4 at this point, the Tesla CEO also alluded that the upcoming electric car would be smaller, which appeals to mainstream consumers. It might possibly be a self-driving car as well. "I think it will be quite unusual to see cars that don't have full autonomy, let's say, in 15-20 years," said Elon Musk via Wall Street Journal. "And for Tesla, it will be a lot sooner than that."
