Mom drives children into the ocean, says husband abuses her

A pregnant woman from South Carolina reportedly drove her minivan directly into the ocean in Florida while her three children were on board the vehicle, according to The Associated Press.

One Daytona beach officer asked the 32-year-old woman if she was injured after swerving her car into the ocean, to which Ebony Wilkerson replied by saying that she's being abused by her husband.

Officer David Vania asked Wilkerson what had happened and she responded that she has "endured 14 years of agony with her husband."

Wilkerson has been sent to prison and her bail is set at $1.2 million. She is faced with three counts of child abuse and three counts of attempted murder. Wilkerson's children are aged 3, 9 and 10.

Officers and onlookers who were present at the scene of the accident helped pull her and her three children out of the minivan that was almost submerged into the water.

According to the report, one of Wilkerson's children told an officer that their mother was "sleepwalking."

One beach safety officer who interviewed Wilkerson said she looked tired and was not speaking clearly.

Wilkerson's father said his daughter is a good mother, sharing that she was sent to a hospital by her sister for mental evaluation but later on left the facility against the staff's medical advice.
