Chris Pine arrested for DUI in New Zealand

Chris Pine was arrested for driving under the influence after leaving a wrap party on location for his upcoming film "Z for Zachariah" in New Zealand.

According to local sources, the 33-year-old actor was caught in the early morning drunk driving on March 1. He was out celebrating with other cast members from the sci-fi film in the New Zealand town of Methven.

Canterbury police confirmed in a statement that an American man was stopped during a routine check near the South Island town of Methven with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit of .08. However, they did not reveal the identity of the culprit due to New Zealand privacy laws.

"Given that the matter is now before the court police will not be releasing any further information," police stated, according to E News.

Local sources say Pine is due in Ashburton district court on March 17.

Local paper "The New Zealand Herald" reported that the party was held at the Blue Pub Methven, where 70 cast, crew and volunteers attended. Cast members include "12 Years a Slave's" Chiwetel Ejiofor and Margot Robbie from "The Wolf of Wall Street." The bar was rented out to celebrate the end of filming "Z for Zachariah," (to be released in 2015) directed by Craig Zobel, on Feb. 28, but the party didn't end until 3 a.m. the next morning

Pine's Icelandic girlfriend, Iris Bjork Johannesdottir, joined in the festivities, according to the pub's manager, Casey Crawford.

He added that the "Star Trek" actor had been drinking beer and did not appear intoxicated by the time he left at 2:30 a.m., saying he and others were well behaved.

"Chris was really good. They were a good crowd, the whole lot of them," Crawford said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He said he was confused as to why Pine even got behind the wheel, given that transportation was provided for patrons.
