"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 may serve as the series finale, which will serve as a proper closure to the vampires of Mystic Falls. Ratings for Season 7 have seen a plunge since Nina Dobrev decided to leave the series in Season 6.

Series creator Julie Plec expressed in an earlier interview that fans may still see Nina Dobrev back on "TVD" as Elena Gilbert in honor of "Delena" fans during its series finale. However, a recent report from Sportsrageous hints that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev's reunion may no longer happen.

According to the publication, Somerhalder's wife, Nikki Reed is preventing the said reunion from happening at all costs. The publication notes that Reed has previously prevented Somerhalder and Dobrev from kissing onstage when they won the award for Best Kiss in the 2015 Teen Choice Awards.

Meanwhile, TV Series Finale reports on Plec's upcoming plans for "The Vampire Diaries" should the show come to an end in Season 8. Plec revealed that she has already planned on an ending for the show ever since Dobrev announced her departure from the series.

"If it's next year at the end of season eight, great. If it's the end of season nine, great. Whatever gets us to that moment will change a lot over the next year or two, but that actual last sequence is pretty written in my head already," said Plec.
