Old Navy criticized for digitally altering thigh gap into plus-size jeans

Old Navy recently came under fire after apparently editing thigh gaps into some images of plus-sized jeans found on its website, according to reports.

A blogger for WTF Plus posted the digitally enhanced photos on the site, criticising the move.

Photos showed an image of Old Navy's denim pants with odd-looking white spaces superimposed between the upper thighs.

Old Navy isn't the first to trip over its photoshopping, which critics say perpetuates an unhealthy trend that glorifies an unattainable body shape. The Gap made an even more obvious error on a pair of Women's Plus Rockstar Jeggings found on Old Navy's website. The $40 jeans that claimed to be "great for all shapes" and "fitted through hip and thigh" look unrealistically slim in the thigh area.

Critics who have seen the photo took their negative feedback to Twitter, where they posted comments.

"This whole 'thigh gap' obsessions needs to END," one user wrote.

"So, the jeans aren't even sold in-store and women can't get true visual online," said another.

Target found itself in a similar situation when, just last week, Target made part of a swimsuit model's bottom half appear to be weirdly etched away.

The move was considered even more offensive by the fact that the photos were initially intended to promote Xhilaration brand Midkinis - part of a juniors' line of clothing specifically designed for teenagers and young adults.

Target immediately took down the photo. Target spokesman Evan Miller told ABC News: "It was an unfortunate error on our part and we apologize."
