BTS 2016: K-Pop Boy Band Soars With 'Young Forever'

BTS continues to dominate in the US with the new album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever." However, the K-Pop boy band BTS (Bangtan Boys) was almost called by a different name: Big Kids.

The seven-member BTS, made up of Jungkook, Suga, Rap Monster, V, J-Hope, Jin and Jimin, is pulling in impressive numbers on the US charts. According to Billboard, BTS is on back on Billboard 200 at No. 107 with the compilation album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever."

This is the second time that BTS is sitting on the chart. BTS had been at No. 171 with "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2" by December 2015. The chart success marks a significant milestone for K-Pop as BTS beats out G-Dragon's N0. 161 ranking in 2012 with the "One of a Kind" EP.

The sales success of "Young Forever" should indicate how flooded BTS can expect to be on Twitter. A separate Billboard story reports that BTS has just announced a competition for their fans vis-a-vis the launch of their very first emoji.

This is a Twitter special for BTS, presumably in recognition of topping the social media's 2015 music trend. Twitter will help BTS assess the top five countries with the most number of tweets that use the K-Pop group's emoji.

South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, the United States and Indonesia are expected to vie heavily for the special video message that BTS will create for the winning countries. However, both Twitter and BTS are waiting to see if the competition result will display an overturn.

Supposedly, fans can activate the BTS emoji by posting a tweet that includes the hashtags #BTS or its Korean original #방탄소년단. The Twitter emoji displays the BTS logo of a bulletproof vest. The translation of Bangtan Boys is actually Bulletproof Boy Scouts.

SBS reports that BTS was almost given a different K-Pop boy band name. Big Kids and Young Nation were the original top contenders for BTS. J-Hope for one is relieved that they were called Bangtan Boys instead.

BTS is scheduled to take to the road beginning June 9 with stops at Taipei in Taiwan, Cotai in Macau and Nanjing in China. From July 12 to 16 BTS will be in Osaka and Nagoya in Japan. Another visit to China will preceed a trip to the Philippines and Thailand. BTS will be in Tokyo, Japan on August 13.
