'Star Trek' CBS Reboot Cast News: 'Castle' Star Nathan Fillion As Captain Of The Enterprise?

Now that "Castle" has officially been cancelled, its star, Nathan Fillion is free to accept a new TV project. Rumors suggests that the actor is being eyed in the cast of the "Star Trek" reboot on CBS All-Access. Will he become the captain of the new Enterprise?

CBS has yet to make an official announcement regarding the cast of the "Star Trek" reboot, but the network presented the show's logo and its first teaser during the upfronts May 18. Calling it "a new adventure," with a "new cast, new villains, new heroes and new worlds," the show is marked for a January 2017 release on the network's online platform, CBS All-Access.

Parent Herald previously reported that filming for the "Star Trek" reboot will begin in the fall in Toronto. But as to who will be joining in the cast remains unconfirmed. A scifi fan site, Scifi Obsession, was first to suggest that "Castle" star Nathan Fillion could be "sitting in the center seat" when the show premieres on CBS. The site also enjoined other fans to make this known to the powers-that-be at the network.

Nathan Fillion is no stranger to leading a group of space explorers as he used to star in the scifi adventure "Firefly" as Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Reacting to suggestions he could be the new captain of the Enterprise, fans think that the idea is a great one. They also hope that CBS will listen.

Celeb Dirty Laundry suggests that perhaps this is the reason why Nathan Fillion's show was cancelled on ABC because he's already set to star in a new series. There had been drama in the weeks leading up to the "Castle" Season 8 finale, when the network decided to cut Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion's leading lady, from the cast for next season. Despite early indications that "Castle" will move on for Season 9 even without its female lead, ABC surprised everyone when it announced "Castle" has in fact been cancelled.

So, what do you think trekkers? Does Nathan Fillion as Enterprise captain have your approval? While waiting for the official casting announcements for the "Star Trek" reboot, here's the teaser to the show below:
