Reports have it that KBS gave already planned to give fans another season of the 16-episode Korean series. However, the upcoming season is reportedly not going to be a sequel to the first installment.

Some fans have speculated that Song Joong Ki have already been filming for the "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2. However, it seems like it is impossible for Song Joong Ki to shoot for the second installment of the upcoming "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 as he is currently busy with his eight-city China tour, which is a part of his Asian tour.

In other words, several fans will have to wait for quite some time before the film starts rolling for the "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2. Also, there has been reports circulating that Song Joong Ki will not be back for the upcoming "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2.

KBS drama department head Jung Sung Ho announced that "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 is possible to happen. "KBS will strive to produce a second 'Descendants of the Sun' to meet expectations and repay viewers," he said. "We plan to launch a 'Descendants of the Sun' project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team."

However, despite the confirmation of the "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2, reports have it that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are not yet sure to be back in the upcoming installment. There were also reports claiming that the "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 that it will not be a sequel to Season 1.
