This Virtual Field Trip With Red Nose Day, Connie Britton Engages Students In Global Poverty Fight

Today's young generation is the hope of our future, so the saying goes. People behind the Red Nose Day event think so too and so they are engaging with students. Comic Relief's Red Nose Day and actress Connie Britton on May 18 hosted a live-streamed virtual field trip, which hoped to raise awareness among children about the global poverty and how they can be part of the solution.

Joining the campaign is the Staten Island Academy, where the virtual tour was held, and subject matter expert Mattito Watson from Save the Children. The 40-minute virtual tour brought students and educators around the world. There were also activities before and after the field trip to process the participants' learning and understanding of the global poverty issues.

Teach Children Empathy

"Nashville" star Britton believes to the power of using education as a medium to teach students empathy and unlock their imagination with the aid of technology. One day, they will be the ones to solve the society's most pressing issues. She said, "As we look to our future generation of leaders, it's important that we open their eyes to what's happening abroad and in their backyard. Poverty is something that we can't shy away from or ignore."

"The Red Nose Day in School initiative is designed to inspire students to become more aware of important issues, and more empowered to help others and create positive change," said Janet Scardino, CEO of Comic Relief.

The official Red Nose Day event will be held on May 26 in Los Angeles. The star-studded television event will be broadcasted live on NBC at 9 p.m. People can participate in fun activities and help raise funds by purchasing Red Noses sold at Walgreens stores nationwide.
