'The Mindy Project' Update: Mindy Kaling Sounds off on Reports About Chris Messina's Future on Show

Reports have recently surfaced surrounding the show The Mindy Project that Chris Messina will no longer be a series regular prompting many to speculate that his departing from the show but lead star Mindy Kaling debunked those rumors and assured fans her on-screen partner will not be going anywhere.

The Mindy Project is on its fifth season, but technically the second season on Hulu network since its move, and Messina's character, Danny Castellano, was rumored to be missing in action in some of the upcoming episodes of the show.

Kaling shared in a recent interview with E!, "When people hear that, I think that they sometimes get worried that they're not going to see him, but he was in these past 13 episodes very frequently and they share a child." Kaling continued to note that she does not want to scare people off about Danny no longer being in the show as the character of Messina is one of the much needed roles on the show because he is the father of Mindy's child.

She added that fans will not miss Danny because he is not going anywhere and that they will never remove an important character as well as not do anything to make the audience worry.

However, Kaling did address that the decision to break up Mindy and Danny this season was the way to go despite the fans not accepting the inevitable to happen. The actress pointed out that she never wants to cause pain to her audience because she loves the viewers of the show as they are very loyal and invested.

Kaling added, "They dated and they were very happy and they have very good chemistry, but that relationship is also very volatile because they're super different."

She also had nothing but kind words about Messina saying that the actor is such a great performer and he nailed the drama of the plot. Fans will also get to see Messina's character in the last four episodes of The Mindy Project's latest season despite him not being on the previous episodes as of recent.

The Mindy Project airs Tuesdays on Hulu.
