Remembering 'Star Trek's' Chekov: Anton Yelchin's Co-Stars, Justin Timberlake Pay Tribute To Late Actor

Another young actor who passed away too soon, Anton Yelchin all had opportunities to star in when he unexpectedly met an early demise following a tragic car accident near his home. Since then, his "Star Trek" co-stars, as well as famous actor-singer Justin Timberlake had nothing but really nice things to say about him.

The young actor's openness and angelic charm as both a stage and movie actor had gained him a number of followers. After starring in movies such as Fright Night and Like Crazy (both came out in 2011), Anton Yelchin's true breakout moment came when he was given the part Walter Koenig originally played in the "Star Trek" franchise reboot, the Guardian reported.

Although an unnatural choice to play "Star Trek" navigator Chekov, Anton Yelchin showed a comedic side to the serious role, especially with that ostentatious Russian accent. And to think the star was in fact, born to famed Russian Olympic Skater parents and was raised in the U.S following his birth.

The theater was another maturing ground for Anton Yelchin, as he also gave a well-regarded performance in the film adaptation of Shakespeare's Cymbeline during the Venice film festival last 2014. Yelchin went on to in the film Experimenter (2015), which was also directed by Michael Almereyda (for the film version of Cymbeline).

Justin Timberlake, Yelchin's co-star in the 2006 crime film "Alpha Dog", also gave a brief, loving tribute to the young star's professionalism and good nature, according to a Metro UK post. The actor-singer sent his condolences over to Anton Yelchin's family in a series of tweets via his social media account, which said: ‘I can't believe Anton is gone. He was a great man, a true friend, and an artist. Love you buddy.' The young actor had died after his Jeep Cherokee rolled backwards, crushing him while he was out checking it.
