In an episode entitled "Animals," the inmates were outraged as they plotted a protest in the cafeteria. Their protest is to stop the psychological abuse they're facing from the new correctional officer CO Piscatella. They wanted him fired, thus they staged a protest which ended up with Suzanne getting hurt.

Suzanne's behavior is getting out of hand as she goes through an emotional battle after her fight with Kukudio that CO Humphrey instigated. As she went erratic, CO Humphrey ordered Bayley to constrain her, thus Poussey jumped in to help her, but she was forced on the ground by Bayley.

As Poussey was pushed to the ground by Bayley, he forced his entire body weight (while kneeling) on Poussey's back, giving her a hard time to breathe. As he got back up, Poussey was left lifeless on the floor.

Tysee then rushed to her best friend's body, wherein she was crushed and wailed. Her death caught the fans of guard as it was one of the unexpected deaths for "Orange is the New Black."
