‘Code Black’ Season 2 Cast News & Premiere Date: Nafessa Williams, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Tyra Given Recurring Roles?

"Code Black" has identified new cast members to join the new family of the sophomore season. The CBS series is making a lot of changes in the show, including replacing the lead roles to reflect the real-life hospital scenario where residents and physicians come and go.

Newest Additions To The 'Code Black' Cast

CBS has found the stars that would portray three major recurring roles. "Twin Peaks" star Nafessa Williams, "Heroes: Reborn" star Noah Gray-Cabey, and "Flesh and Bone" star Emily Tyra are set to be the new residents of Angels Memorial Hospital, as reported by Deadline.

According to the publication, Nafessa Williams will play as an actress-turned-doctor, Charlotte Piel. She returns to Los Angeles and will take her residency with Angels Memorial. Noah Gray-Cabey will portray a sweet new doctor Elliot Han who will find it overwhelming to deal with the cases at the ER. Emily Tyra will be the confident and defiant Noa Kean. The casting of the three actors has the prospect of promoting them as regulars on "Code Black."

"We conducted a wide search for actors to play our newest young residents and these three burst to the top. All three are tremendous, wildly compelling actors," stated "Code Black" creator and executive producer Michael Seitzman.

Male Lead Casting

"Code Black" is yet to cast the lead role opposite Marcia Gay Harden. Parent Herald previously reported on the speculations on who might possibly take the role, and some of the names that emerge include Jeff Hephner ("Chicago Med"), Ben Bass ("Rookie Blue"), Jamie Bamber ("Monday Mornings"), and Coby Bell ("Burn Notice").

Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey, who were "Code Black" Season 1 regulars, have already departed. Meanwhile, Jillian Murray (Dr. Heather Pinkney) and Boris Kodjoe (Dr. Will Campbell), have been promoted to regular. Seitzman planned a major recast for creative reasons. Deadline noted that the "Code Black" will have the bragging rights to be one of the shows with the biggest regular casts for the second season, featuring a huge number of guest casts, as well as 800 extras per episode.

"Code Black" Season 2 will premiere on Sept. 28.
