In recent months, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, from rumors of exceeding budget to Johnny Depp's nasty divorce battle against estranged wife Amber Heard. But despite the negative publicity, fans are still excited for the upcoming sequel.

Is 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5' A Reboot?

In 2014, actor Orlando Bloom, who's playing the role of Will Turner in the "Pirates" franchise, had reportedly confirmed that "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" would be a reboot. According to International Business Times, Bloom had said that Disney was contemplating a "Pirates" reboot by depicting the tale of Will Turner's relationship to his son.

"Basically, they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son," Bloom said at the time, Movie News Guide quotes.

New Younger Characters Playing A Huge Part In 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5'?

Aside from being a reboot, there is also a big possibility that new cast members Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites, who play the roles of Carina Smyth and Henry Turner respectively, will be playing a big part in another "Pirates" installment. But in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales," fans will get to see Henry as he embarks on a journey to reunite with his father Will while astronomer Carina is reportedly Henry's love interest in the upcoming sequel.

Rumors also have it that Carina is Captain Barbossa's (Geoffrey Rush) daughter in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales." Will, on the other hand, will be Davy Jones.

Disney is still aiming to release "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" on May 26, 2017. However, the company has reportedly cancelled their plans for "Pirates of the Caribbean 6," which suggests that the upcoming sequel may be Johnny Depp's last movie where he'll play the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.

As reported by Chatt Sports Net, "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" was supposedly filmed along with the upcoming fifth installment of the "Pirates" franchise. Unfortunately, the production didn't push through as Disney initially planned, casting doubts on the future of Depp's beloved character.
