‘Gran Turismo 7’ Release Date: No GT7 To Come After GT Sport? ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ Is Actually ‘Gran Turismo 7’?

Fans have long been waiting for the release of "Gran Turismo 7," but instead a new game "Gran Turismo Sport" is going to come out first. Speculations have been making rounds that the "Gran Turismo Sport" is actually the "Gran Turismo 7" despite the developers denying the rumors. Recent comments from the developer Polyphony Digital and the creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself might confirm the rumors after all.

GT Sport Could Have Been 'Gran Turismo 7'

Polyphony Digital previously denied that "Gran Turismo Sport" is actually the "Gran Turismo 7," and said that they are still working on GT7. But in a roundtable during the unveiling of GT Sport, the producer of the hit car racing game, Kazunori Yamauchi, said, "The reason we called it Gran Turismo Sport was that we really wanted to incorporate the FIA events." He added, "Thinking about it now, yeah, we could have called it "Gran Turismo 7." But it's got so many features, we wanted it to be different," as reported by DigitalSpy.

In an interview with MotorWorldHype.com during a special event for a presentation of GT Sport, Yamauchi was also asked about why they decided to make GT Sport instead of GT7. Yamauchi explained that in essence, "Gran Turismo Sport" is indeed "Gran Turismo 7." It is like considering "Gran Turismo" 1 to 6 as a first generation era, and then GT Sport as a start of a new generation.

No More 'Gran Turismo 7' After GT Sport?

At the end of his explanation, Yamauchi added, "So it doesn't mean there's going to be a seven after this." Could this mean that fans should no longer expect a "Gran Turismo 7" because Polyphony has shifted its work on GT Sport? Maybe a "Gran Turismo Sports 2" would be more realistic to look forward to. "Gran Turismo 7" was not supposed to be a continuation of the best-selling GT6, and it was said to be built from the ground up. With that, there can be a truth about just choosing to name it differently and that GT Sport is the GT7 fans have been waiting for.

What do you think? Could a "Gran Turismo 7" still come out before the end of this year or early 2017 despite the lack of preview and all? Sound off your comments below.
