'Boot Camp For New Dads': It’s Not Baby Sitting, It’s Called Parenting

Every mom and dad knows that parenting entails an unthinkable responsibility that goes unparalleled. Parenthood is even more than merely looking after kids.

A group of fathers can attest to this. On Saturday morning at Huntsville Hospital's Dowdle Center, a number of dads, both experienced and new ones, had gathered to go over the basics of parenting according to Raising Arizona Kids.

Kristen and her husband, David Rhodes, will become a family of three this coming September. "Her name is going to be Hazel Marie," David happily said. "So, it's two against one now," he added.

David Rhodes is apparently putting much effort on his future role as his family enters a home stretch. According to David, his decision to attend Boot Camp for New Dads is to simply cover all the basics, and he might likewise take the 3-hour class in order to get it all ready as cited on WHNT News.

There are actually three things that time which can be found in Rhodes' "dad" priority list. First, how to be the best dad, second how to make sure his wife is okay, and third, how to make sure the baby is okay. "Make sure I'm doing my part as well," he said.

Michael Carson, a trained Pediatric Physical Therapist Michael, coaches the fear out of the first time dads. "They may have never touched a baby, held a baby before so it's just a laid back time where they can get their hands on a baby, and get their questions asked," Carson explained.

A father of a 13-month old child, Carson is essentially a pro; so, he called out for the other veteran dads to get the 'boot camp' class into formation. "Supporting moms and being more involved with their children, it helps them bond earlier, it helps the family dynamics," he said. The said class substantially covers all necessary areas that will prepare dads from neophyte to pro in just a small amount of time.
