‘Outlast 2’ Release Postponed, Developers Promise a More Terrifying Experience

After scaring the living daylights out of fans in "Outlast", the followup to one of the most terrifying survival horror games ever released, "Outlast 2", will have its release date pushed back to ensure the developer's vision of truly frightening even the most enthusiastic horror gamers.

The first "Outlast" game released in 2013 gained positive reviews for its horror elements and gameplay, garnering high praise from critics. It was given a 7.8 by Marty Silva of IGN, saying "I can safely say that Outlast made me jump out of my chair more often in its four-hour descent into Hell than any other game ever has." Other notable video game analysts gave similar remarks, placing "Outlast" at the upper portion of new generation survival horror games.

It's sequel, "Outlast 2", however, was set back a few months for development concerns. Red Barrel, the team behind the "Outlast" franchise, took to Facebook to address the issue saying "Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible", adding "That's why we're taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve."

Followers of the game anticipated it's original release late 2016, but according to Red Barrel the game will not be made available until the first quarter of 2017. The independent studio still assures fans that the delay of the "Outlast 2" release will be worth it, that they are hard at work with their efforts to give gamers more than they could ask for. In the same Facebook post, Red Barrel says "we could not, in good conscience, release a game who's limits haven't been tested to the extreme." and ending with "Thank you for understanding. We promise Outlast 2 will scare the crap out of you."

Red Barrel also revealed, via IGN, an eerie sneak peek at one of the characters on "Outlast 2" named "Sullivan Knoth", a zealous cult leader, leading his disciples to an abandoned town in the wilderness.

"Outlast 2" is still under development and promises to be available in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
