Eva Mendes On Losing Brother and Bringing Daughter Amada Into The World The Same Time, Regards It Beautiful and Heartbreaking

Eva Mendes rarely talks about her personal life but in the latest issue of Latina magazine, the actress opened up about having to lose her brother and welcoming her second daughter with Ryan Gosling during the same week. The actress regarded the happening as both heartbreaking and beautiful.

Mendes broke her silence in the interview about what she went through during the death of her brother, Carlos, and the birth of her now-three-month-old Amada. The 42-year-old said that her family helped her get through it adding, "Losing my brother brought our family closer, and we were already close to begin with."

Carlos lost his battle to cancer at the age of 53 last April 17. She added that seeing everybody there for one another made her feel lucky to have such a close-knit family. Amada was born 12 days after the death of Mendes' brother and she said that they had a funeral service for Carlos the same week that she and Gosling welcomed their second daughter. She noted, "It was really, really intense and obviously beyond heartbreaking, but also kind of beautiful."

However, Mendes revealed that she was not able to grieve properly yet as she has a two-year-old, named Esmeralda, and a three-month-old. She said that as of now, it is about surviving the nights and trying to enjoy the time that she has with them. Mendes also said that she is starting to form a bond between Esmeralda and Amada, E! News reported.

Mendes also told Latina magazine that the names of her two daughters came from her family. Her grandmother's name is Amada while Esmeralda is the name of her oldest sister. She pointed out that Latinas reuse names all the time so she and Gosling went with Amada for their second daughter.

More on their children, Mendes and Gosling plan to raise their daughters to be bilingual. She said that she constantly plays Cuban music and she speaks to them in Spanish.
