‘Quake Champions’ Update: Bethesda Released Incredible Gameplay Shows Game True To Its Roots; A Modern Take To A Classic Arena Shooter

The latest installment in the "Quake" franchise by gaming developer id Software, "Quake Champions", finally released it's much-awaited trailer at E3 2016, and has recently revealed it's new gameplay.

"Quake Champions" is the first main release in the "Quake" series since 2005's "Quake 4". The violent and futuristic first person shooter has become a fan favorite, since it's first appearance for PC gamers in 1996, and fans have been waiting for a "Quake" release for newer platforms. Then came "Quake Champions" to the delight of the waiting fans.

In Bethesda's E3 2016 showcase last June, fans were treated to the first trailer reveal for "Quake Champions", featuring the familiar FPS setting coupled with a major graphics upgrade. Based on the "Quake" trailer, there are significant changes made to the game's characters According to James Davenport of PC Gamer. In "Quake Champions,"  players may now choose from a diverse cast of warriors, with each class having their own unique abilities.

The characters or "warriors" who are featured in the "Quake Champions" trailer were also revealed, courtesy of id Software's Tim Willits. The characters featured were "Ranger", the original character in the "Quake" series, "ScaleBear", "Visor" who is from "Quake 3", and "Nix"/ "Nyx", the only female character in "Quake Champions."

The gameplay teaser for "Quake Champions" was also recently revealed. Sam Machkovech of ARS Technica reported that the "Quake Champions" gameplay features plenty of verticality, where players can use launch pads or their own weapons to reach higher levels of the large arenas.

Mackovech says that while, the arenas look stunning and fully detailed, the other parts of the reveal were less polished compared to the other releases from id Software.  The "Quake Champions" gameplay also features a fast-paced style, with plenty of running and  jumping. The reveal also gives fans a lot of nostalgia, with old characters from previous "Quake" installments making an appearance in "Quake Champions."

There is no confirmed release date yet for "Quake Champions," but beta testings will be made available in 2017. "Quake: Champions" will be released exclusively for PC.
