'House Of Cards' Season 5 Air Date & News: Woman President Replaces Frank Underwood? Joel Kinnaman Talks 'Over The Top' Elections

Filming for "House of Cards" Season 5 is actively happening in Baltimore. Kevin Spacey, Mike Kelly and the rest of the cast and crew have been spotted on the set by local observers. Last season closed with the beginning of the presidential elections, with Frank Underwood (Spacey) leading for the Democrats. However, rumors are rife that for "House of Cards" Season 5, Pres. Underwood might soon be replaced by a woman president.

Speculations that Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) will replace her husband as president on "House of Cards" Season 5 have been floating around the internet for weeks. It sprung from ideas that suggest Frank Underwood would not last the upcoming season.

Stories abound regarding the character stepping down from the seat of power because of his liver condition. It should be recalled that in "House of Cards" Season 4, an assassination attempt on Pres. Frank Underwood resulted in a liver damage, which led to his liver transplant, as Bustle recapped.

Another fan theory suggests that Frank Underwood might be murdered by his own wife and running mate for vice president, Claire. The character doesn't hide the fact that it is power she wants and she will do anything to get it.

However, all these assumptions have not been confirmed by the show's executive producers and stars. The storylines surrounding "House of Cards" Season 5 remain a top secret considering the show won't be back on Netflix until 2017.

Meanwhile, Joel Kinnaman, who plays Gov. Will Conway and Pres. Frank Underwood's biggest opponent in the presidential campaign in the previous season of "House of Cards," reflected on the state of the real elections in the United States. The actor told Vanity Fair that he has not seen something "as crazy and over the top" as the actual U.S. elections. The actor notes that the craziness does not even compare to what's happening in "House of Cards." Interestingly enough, his political adversary on the TV show is a man who has murdered people to save his own skin.

"It seems like our fictional show is more believable than reality," said Joel Kinnaman. He also called out Donald Trump and described that he's "not a man fit to be president." The actor has dual citizenship as an American and a Swede. It is unclear if he will be part of "House of Cards" Season 5.

Tune to "House of Cards" when its fifth season begins streaming on Netflix next year. Meanwhile, the show's earlier seasons are still on the site for those who would like to catch up on the show.
