‘Wentworth’ Season 5 Air Date News & Update: Bea Smith Had To Die For Foxtel To Confirm S5?

"Wentworth" Season 5 will see the block rebuilding after the harrowing death of Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) in the S4 finale "Seeing Red." The "Wentworth" Season 5 premiere will aptly mirror the uncertainty among fans of the Foxtel series after seeing the bold elimination of Bea Smith as prison block and "Wentworth" show lead.

However, Bea Smith may have had to die and Daniel Cormack had had to exit for Foxtel to sign up for "Wentworth" Season 5. Despite how the audience embraced Bea Smith and her story, FX News Call cites executive producer Jo Porter in revealing that the "Wentworth" series needed to bring in fresh storylines to remain on air.

  To be sure, viewer interest is now piqued if only to see what direction "Wentworth" Season 5 takes the remaining characters of the series. NetflixLife reports that binge-watching on "Wentworth" Season 4 on Netflix already indicates viewer excitement for S5.

For now fans are waiting to see if Foxtel will bring in new characters to replace Bea Smith as top dog in "Wentworth" Season 5 as Parent Herald reports. Alternatively, someone from the ranks could step up and be the next "Bea Smith" when "Wentworth" Season 5 rolls in.

If a new character assumes leadership in "Wentworth" Season 5, fans may expect as strong a backstory as Bea Smith. One of the reasons why Bea Smith easily captured fan affection is because the "Wentworth" series gave Daniel Cormack's character an underdog-to-top-dog storyline, albeit in a prison block.

"Wentworth" painted Bea Smith as a battered wife, who had to resort to murder to be free of her abusive husband. Instead of earning freedom, Bea Smith was locked up for life, without parole, descending into the various hells of the Wentworth prison block.

The "Wentworth" series saw Bea Smith reach inside her for undiscovered reserves of strength that enabled her to lead the women of her block. This made her death at "Wentworth" Season 4, "Seeing Red," doubly tragic for Bea Smith fans.
