Apple Insider examined the key features in MacBook Pro that Apple should give attention to. The report suggests that Apple should equip their new MacBook Pro with a smaller USB-C port with high-speed USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity.

AI closely studied the history of USB and concluded that the MacBook Pro 2016 need an upgrade. Current MacBook Pro models are still equipped with USB 1.1. or USB 2 ports.

The USB protocol started in 1996 but it didn't get wide support until Steve Jobs used it in the original iMac, which he equipped with USB 1.1. The first USB port that Apple used has a data transfer of only 1.5 megabits per second in "low speed" and 12 megabits per second in "high speed."

Meanwhile, USB 2.0 was manufactured in 2000 with a faster speed of 480 megabits per seconds. On the other hand, USB 3.0 was released in 2008 with an impressive "super speed." USB 3.0 provides a peak connection of 5 gigabits per seconds.

On a side note, MacBook Pro 2016 is also expected to come with Thunderbolt 3. The original Thunderbolt provides speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second per channel. In 2013, Intel launched Thunderbolt 2 that offers twice the speed of the original Thunderbolt with up to 20 gigabits per second.

Intel's latest Thunderbolt 3 comes with two discrete speeds with its peak speeds up to 40 gigabits per second. It also allows the use of active cables and passive cables. The later cuts the downstream speed to one channel at 10 gigabits per second.
