NBA Rumors: Caron Butler Joining The Knicks? Butler Helping In Shooting & Guard Rotation?

Caron Butler is reportedly interested in joining the New York Knicks. He last played for the Sacramento Kings last NBA season but went into free agency after he didn't get sufficient minutes in the rotation.

ESPN contributor Anthony Donahue revealed Butler's interest in playing for the Knicks after talking to the 36-year-old player on the "33rd & 7th" podcast. Donahue tweeted on Thursday, August 18: "Caron Butler would be a solid pickup for The #Knicks. He told me on #33rdAnd7th he loves the moves we made and would be interested."

According to NBC Sports, Butler's skills isn't the same as it used to be, but he is still a welcome addition to the Knicks' locker room and his years in the NBA can inspire younger players. Butler can serve as the Knicks shooting guard/small forward, but those roles aren't just available for the taking.

The Knicks' acquisition of Courtney Lee, Derrick Rose, and Brandon Jennings has filled the team's shooting guard position. Lance Thomas and Carmelo Anthony, on the other hand, are said to handle the small forward roles.

Thomas has an impressive performance with the Knicks so far with his 8.2 points and 2.2 rebounds. He has good defense skills and is capable of defending several positions on the court.

Butler has 17 games with the Kings last season, averaging 3.7 points and 1.3 rebounds in 10.4 minutes, The Inquisitr reported. In Butler's entire career, he averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.

Aside from Butler, Stephen Jackson is also reportedly interested in playing for the Knicks this upcoming season, HoopsHype reported. In his career, Jackson averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 3.1 assists per game. He previously played for the Brooklyn Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks, ESPN listed.

There are rumors that Lance Stephenson is joining the Knicks as well. Stephenson, however, has inconsistency issues, but he can be creative and persistent when it comes to scoring points for the team, according to Morning News USA.

The Knicks has 14 players with guaranteed deals. Three players -- Chasson Randle, J.P. Tokoto, and Ron Baker -- have non-guaranteed contracts.
