'X-Men' TV Show 'Legion' Will Connect With Future Films, Says Bryan Singer [Air Date, Teaser, Plot & Cast]

The "X-Men" universe is coming together in both films and television. Helmer Bryan Singer revealed that "Legion," the upcoming FX TV drama about Professor Charles Xavier's son, will introduce the connection of "X-Men" from TV to films. The show stars former "Downtown Abbey" actor Dan Stevens.

Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Bryan Singer, who has directed five of six "X-Men" movies and is producing the TV shows, categorically stated that FX's "Legion" with Dan Stevens will be interconnected to future "X-Men" movies. It will also have ties with the still-untitled "X-Men" TV series that is in development at Fox.

However, this doesn't mean that "Legion" won't be a distinct television show. "When you watch it, you wouldn't have to label it, it could exist completely on its own," Bryan Singer said, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans were treated to "Legion" at the Comic Con in June with the first footage of the series. Subsequently, FX and Marvel also released "Legion's" first teaser, which you can watch below.

"Legion" was first announced as in development in 2015. Working behind the scenes is show creator Noah Hawley, who is credited and lauded for his work in "Fargo." But back then, Hawley said that "Legion" will take place in a "parallel universe" as the "X-Men" movies. "I wouldn't see characters moving back and forth because they really are parallel universe," said Hawley, per Slash Film.

"Legion" is about David Haller (Stevens), whose schizophrenic manifestations are actually more than just a figment of his crazy mind. He would eventually discover he's got mutant powers. In the "Legion" comic series on Marvel, David Haller is the "X-Men" leader Professor Charles Xavier's son.

Meanwhile, Marvel announced that "Legion" Season 1 will have eight episodes. The show is projected to debut in early 2017. Apart from Stevens, "Legion" will star Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Jean Smart, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin and Katie Aselton. The cast is already in the middle of production in Vancouver.
