'Stranger Things' Season 2 Air Date & News: S2 Not The Last As Numbers Spike, Duffer Brothers Planning Ending Already

It's highly likely for "Stranger Things" to continue beyond Season 2. Though Netflix hasn't made any renewal announcements, the numbers show that viewers have clearly gotten hooked on the series. The Duffer Brothers, who created "Stranger Things," acknowledged that they have already some ideas as to how far the show will go, including its potential ending.

Unofficial ratings charted by Symphony Advanced Media reveals that "Stranger Things" garnered 14.07 million viewers in the 18-49 demo in its first 35 days of release on Netflix. Variety reports that this puts "Stranger Things" in the same high ranking as "Fuller House" Season 1 and "Orange is the New Black" Season 4, which also drew large numbers in the first 35 days of release.

However, the report also points out that Netflix doesn't recognize the data from Symphony Advanced Media, nor does it actually considers ratings numbers despite showing favorable results for "Stranger Things."

Netflix executives stand firm on the fact that their business model relies on viewer subscriptions and not ratings. Per Nasdaq, the company is actually projected to grow subscribers internationally in the next four years. Of course, this growth would be largely credited to the kind of shows they offer for subscribers to watch.

Meanwhile, Duffer brothers Mark and Ross stated via IGN that they have an idea in mind for how "Stranger Things" is going to end. The plan now is to figure out how long it will take them to develop the story. Ideally, they cannot imagine "Stranger Things" to stretch beyond Season 6 or Season 7, if this means breaking down the integrity of the characters. "We want to get to [the ending] in a believable way," Mark Duffer said.

"Stranger Things" debuted on Netflix on July 15, 2016. The show has eight hour-long episodes, which can be perfectly binge-watched on weekends. Not familiar with the series yet? Watch the first eight minutes of the pilot episode to "Stranger Things" below.
