Catching Pokémon in "Pokémon GO" highly depends on how accurate a Poké Ball throw is. It's important for trainers to know the correct way to throw Poké Balls and successfully catch Pokémon. "Pokémon GO" players should also pay attention to the radar circle's color. Green means the Pokémon is easy to catch, and darker orange and red indicate a harder catch. Tougher catches may need an advanced type of Poké Ball such as Great Balls, which has a higher catch success rate and can be acquired after reaching level 12, according to IGN.

Majority of Pokémon dodge or jump over Poké Ball throws. To avoid this, "Pokémon GO" players should throw another Poké Ball immediately after the Pokémon dodged or parried a previous Poké Ball.
