'Star Trek: Discovery' Air Date, Cast, Plot & News: As Filming Starts September, Here's A Roundup So Far

Filming for "Star Trek: Discovery" is set to begin this September. Executive producer and showrunner Bryan Fuller has been making the rounds in the press to talk about the show, without giving too much away. Here's a roundup of what has been planned for the new "Star Trek" series so far, based on what Fuller has revealed.

Ahead of the actual filming of "Star Trek: Discovery," three episodes scripts have apparently been completed. The fourth and fifth episodes have their storylines mapped out, but the script are not finished just yet, per Trek Movie.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will have 13 episodes in total. The series will be available for streaming subscription viewing on CBS All Access beginning January 2017. Episodes will also be accessed via Netflix after its release on CBS All Access.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will feature Discovery - the spaceship. The show will be set in the prime universe and a few years before the original "Star Trek" series' timeline, per TV Line. It will also feature a female lead character, who isn't necessarily the ship's Captain.

Parent Herald previously suggested that Number One could be the central character, which Bryan Fuller later confirmed, per Daily Dot. So far, no casting announcements have been made, but the showrunner has stated that they have been auditioning actors.
