Johnny Depp To Star in 'Labyrinth' – The Notorious B.I.G.-Tupac Thriller

Johnny Depp is setting up a trend. Last year, we have seen that the actor took up the role of a gangster Whitey Bulger in Black Mass. Once again, Johnny Depp is all set to take up a role as a true-life figure. This time The "Lincoln Lawyer" director Brad Furman is attached to helm the project.

There are reports that Johnny Depp is signed in to play Russell Poole, the Los Angeles police detective. It was the same detective who investigated the murders of rappers Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, in Labyrinth.

The director, Brad Furman, who is the top gear in the project, is a part of Good Films in which Johhny Depp will be the protagonist. This is the same company which produced the Bryan Cranston crime drama "The Infiltrator." There are reports that UTA and WME Global are co-repping U.S. rights. Good Universe is repping international sales of the Johnny Depp starer.

The screenplay was written by Christian Contreras. There are various aspects involved in the script of the thriller "Labyrinth." The first aspect is the story of a detective, played by Johhny Depp, who investigated the murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. The second aspect is the implication of death row records. The story also involves a huge scandal which involves the Los Angeles Police Department, reported Hollywood Reporter.

Poole was a decorated and accomplished detective who spent months investigating the murder of B.I.G., real name Christopher Wallace. He realizes that there was a group of gangsta cops in his own force who were not only involved in the murder but were also tied to Death Row Records and the Bloods street gang. Poole confronted the LAPD police chief and ended up going into early retirement in protest, reported The Guardian.

Johnny Depp has gone through a roller coaster ride last year. His role in "Black Mass" earned him accolades. But there were bad phases that outdid the good ones. His very public divorce to Amber Heard put him in spotlight for a very long time. Also, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" did not fare well.
