Linux Now Flies Along With A Drone Under Ubuntu and Parrot: S.L.A.M Dunk Droid To Come Out Soon

A new drone is about to hit the tech world by storm and it is called the S.L.A.M. dunk by Parrot from France. This news started roaming around the Internet on September 8. But it is not just a drone because when it is not up in the air flying, it also serves as a computer, which is powered by Linux.

According to PC World, the said drone work with Ubuntu along with Robot OS. Linux is known for working in small computers, which makes it not something new. However, this is the first time that Ubuntu is going to be involved with working their system with drones. The specific operating system that Ubuntu has for this special project is called the 14.04. It is quite known for working fast that it is able to control the droid when it comes to landing and even preventing it gets hit by other entities.

Basically, it is a development kit that makes the droid works as a computer when it is not flying. Ubuntu said that you won\'t find any wings attached to this product, rather it serves as a controller whenever the droid takes flight. Not only that because this powerful little machine could even make new robots.

Another company called Canonical teamed up with Parrot to make this project possible. Part of its amazing features is a camera that can take fisheye photos in 1500 x 1500 pixel. It figures that a camera is needed to help the drone avoid things that could interrupt its function while up in the air. S.L.A.M Dunk has a mobile chip that helps its running. It is called the Tegra K1 by Nvidia. This can be connected to a monitor using HDMI.
