'Halo 3' News & Update: Anniversary Edition Coming In 2017? Remaster Tagged In Preparation For PC Release?

September 2017 will be the tenth year anniversary of "Halo 3," the Xbox 360's major launch title of 2007. Looking back at the last few years of Microsoft's wildly successful franchise, at the ten year intervals of "Halo: Combat Evolved" and "Halo 2," fans were treated to high definition renditions of the original classics.

Microsoft has more or less been consistent in releasing a significant "Halo" entry at least once every year. Whether that entry is a new numbered "Halo" canonical release, a movie or miniseries or one of the aforementioned HD remakes, the Richmond-based owners of the franchise do not let up when it comes to giving fans what they want from the series.

For 2016 however, this pattern appears to have slipped due to the delay of "Halo Wars 2" being moved to February 2017. Still, although no announcements have been made, the idea that "Halo 3" Anniversary Edition may make an appearance next year is compelling.

"Halo 3" is considered by many to be the peak of the series in many areas. To date "Halo 3" is still remembered as such.

Case in point, "Halo 3" currently sits up a score of 94 on Metacritic. "Halo 3" is to the Xbox 360 what "Halo 2" was to Xbox Live and "Halo: Combat Evolve" was to the original Xbox.

"Halo 3" wrapped up the story laid out in "Halo 2," and tied up the rather abrupt ending to that game. It is for all intention purposes, the tail end of "Halo 2" in spirit as well as chronologically.

It, therefore, makes sense that Microsoft may be secretly working on a "Halo 3" Anniversary Edition right now. From a technical perspective it makes sense.

Microsoft is making a big push to bring "Halo" to PC as Parent Herald reports. While in 2014's Master Chief Collection "Halo 1" and "Halo 2" enjoyed a modern remaster, "Halo 3" looked distinctly out of place with its dated textures and clunky cut scenes.

To bring "Halo 3" in this condition to PC gamers in a world of 4K gaming and the Xbox Scorpio would be a disservice to one of the most important entries in the franchise. Microsoft may even tie in the release of next year's major "Halo" remaster with the new 4K edition of the Xbox One.
