PS4 4.00: PlayStation 4 Update Introduces HDR Support, New Features

Sony has just released the anticipated PlayStation 4.00 update, bringing in HDR support and cool new features. The update also adds PS4 Pro-specific streaming features.

The PS4 4.00 update, codenamed Shingen, has a size of 312 MB, which introduces new features and new designs. As reported by GameSpot, the update added folders so it would be much easier to manage games and apps, and has redesigned the Quick and Share menus, content information screen, and What's New screen. Another nice change is that the player no longer has to leave a game or app to choose a song to play in the PlayStation Music. Details for hidden Trophies can now be seen by the players as part of the update, and even view Trophies when they are offline.

And just like what Sony announced last week during the PlayStation Meeting event, all PS4 users would now experience the HDR support. According to CNET, those who own compatible TVs can select HDR in the Video Output Settings for gaming and streaming entertainment content.

The publication reported that the PS4 4.00 update also includes other features in preparation for the release of PlayStation Pro in November. These include 1080p streaming for Remote Play on PC/Mac and compatible Xperia devices, YouTube live broadcasts (30/60fps) and Twitch (30fps). Those who are planning to upgrade to the new console would also find in more convenient to transfer data, such as games, user info and saved data, via wired LAN connection with the "Data transfer to New PS4" feature.

Meanwhile, some of the games already released that are set to receive patches to support PS4 Pro include "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," "The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited," "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" and "Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor." New titles that are yet to hit the markets that would also support PS4 Pro include "Battlefield 1," "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare," "and Final Fantasy 15."

PlayStation 4 Pro will be launched worldwide on Nov. 10 for $399.
