'StarCraft 2' News: Blizzard Taps Snoop Dogg, ‘Stranger Things’ Star For Announcer Packs?

"StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty" from Blizzard Entertainment was released in July 2010 and became the fastest selling strategy game of all time. "StarCraft 2" is a televised professional sport in South Korea and has an extremely dedicated, borderline fanatic, fan base.

Like all Blizzard games, "StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty" enjoyed tremendous post release support. "StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty" enjoyed two major expansion packs, "StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm" (in 2013) and "StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void" (in 2015).

With its loyal fan base "StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty" took its lifeline well into 2016 with the recent releases of the "Nova Covert Ops" DLC packs. Supporting a game such as "StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty" over six years after its release is not unusual for Blizzard.

To maintain such a prolonged post-release support - and considering Blizzard does not release new games as frequently as other studios - expansion packs such as those released for "StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty" help keep the game's revenue streams going. The revenue is, in turn, used to fund new features for the game and keeping "StarCraft" players interested.

The Escapist cites recent reports that Blizzard may be looking for alternative revenue streams for new features in "StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty." Custom chat emoticons and unit skins have been rumored along with the prospect of "StarCraft 2" announcer packs, which may or may not cost a few US dollars per pack.

The news came about from a survey leak, and the names mentioned for the "StarCraft 2" announcer packs are not what would immediately come to mind, but not without interest. The "StarCraft 2" announcer pack potentials are Morgan Freeman, Snoop Dogg, David Harbour (Netflix's Stranger Things), and Sean "Day9" Plott ("StarCraft 2" eSports Commentator).

Other options are more familiar to Blizzard's fans of their other games, which include the "Thrall" from "World Of Warcraft" and the Hearthstone Inn keeper. While many of these suggestions can be imagined (Morgan Freeman is pretty much everywhere these days), the thought of having Snoop Dogg announcing your status in "Starcraft 2" is so bizarre it has to experience out of sheer curiosity.

"StarCraft 2" is currently available on PC and Mac OS. Would you be happy with a Snoop Dogg "StarCraft 2" announcer pack?
