Angelina Jolie's 40th Birthday: Star Admits Acting to Please Her Mother: 'I actually didn't want to be an actor'

Angelina Jolie is celebrating her 40th birthday this week, but did you know that she had her first taste of acting at 5 years old in a small role in her father's movie? Due to her parentage, it's almost a given that she will get into the same line of work as her mom, Marcheline Bertrand, and dad, Jon Voight. As the actress revealed in a recent interview, however, it appears that she realized quite late in her age that she actually didn't want to be an actress. Is one of Hollywood's most bankable stars quitting the biz?

Speaking with Domhnall Gleason, the lead actor for "Unbroken," Jolie's directorial debut, Brad Pitt's wife said, "I only realized about five years ago that I actually didn't want to be an actor," as published in Interview Magazine. She also said that it was her mom who wanted her to be one, so she studied theater and went to auditions at a young age. "I grew up with my career being thrust upon me. It took me a long time to believe that I could do more than that one aspect of our business," Jolie added.

Despite being pushed into acting, Jolie has no resentment towards her mother. In fact, Jolie puts her mother in such high regard and was the reason for her biggest health decision to undergo preventive cancer surgeries. She lost her mother to ovarian cancer in 2007.

"My mom loved being a mom and made sure her children knew every day how much joy we brought to her," Jolie, the mother of six kids, once said of Marcheline an interview with "60 Minutes," adding, "I will never be as good a mother as she was."

Meanwhile, as she celebrates the big 4-0 on June 4 and expressed that she may quit acting altogether, Jolie shared, in the same interview with Gleason, that she does have a secret birthday wish. The actor is in the midst of filming the latest "Star Wars" franchise and Jolie asks him if he could get her a part in the movie.

"I'm personally a Boba Fett fan," Jolie told Gleeson. "Can Boba Fett have a missus? Well, put in a good word for me, then," she chided him.

Fans of Jolie need not worry about missing their favorite star on the big screen just yet, as she still has another film that is currently in post-production. In fact, it's an on-screen reunion with her husband, Pitt, called "By The Sea." The movie is expected to be in theaters in November.
