Zoe Saldana's Husband Marco Perego Takes Her Name: 'I Tried to Talk Him Out of It'

Equality in marriage is a concept women have been fighting for many years. However, actress Zoe Saldana doesn't look like she's having problems with this particular issue. Her husband has taken marriage equality a step further, in fact.

In an interview with InStyle Magazine, the "Guardians of Galaxy" star revealed that her husband, artist Marco Perego, decided to take her own name and would now be known as Marco Saldana. "I tried to talk him out of it," Zoe said to the magazine.

"I told him, 'If you use my name, you're going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world'," the actress added, but her pleas to her husband fell on deaf ears as Marco told her in his distinct Italian accent that he "doesn't give a (expletive)," as reported on Huffington Post.

The idea, though rare, is not unheard of as plenty of men have been doing the practice before, as rounded up by Business Insider. What's important for Zoe and Marco's case is that they seem happy and secure in their relationship, as reported by Daily Mail.

In fact, Zoe talked about being so comfortable in her marriage to her husband, more so today as parents to twins, Cy Ardio and Bowie Ezio, who were born back in November. She revealed that the twins only made their union stronger and the fact that she's the only woman in the family hasn't bothered her at all.

"Since I've been with Marco, I've been lowering my guard. When we had our boys, I looked at my husband and I realized: I was meant for you and you were meant for me. I've always felt comfortable around men as long as they were friends. Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover," the actress expressed.

The actress relates that she also loves it when her husband keeps her in check. She has learned not to be hard on herself, especially when she's perceived as an A-list superstar. In a story on US Magazine, the "Avatar" actress said that she had been pigging out on sushi with their friends one time, and then, just as she was about to hate herself for doing so, "Marco looked at me and said, 'Z, it's okay. Start again tomorrow.' I loved him for that, he reminded me there always tomorrow to make right what you have undone today," Zoe shared.
