Hollywood A-Lister Leonardo DiCaprio Set To Meet With President Barack Obama To Talk About Climate Change

United States President Barack Obama and Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio are reportedly to meet next month to talk about climate change. The talk will be publicized, said the White House in an announcement on Sunday.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the climate change talk will be about the importance of protecting the planet so that it will still be habitable by the future generations. The talk will be during the South by South Lawn, which is a play on SXSW referring to a festival of ideas, art, and action that takes place in the White House.

The documentary of DiCaprio, which was produced by the National Geographic and is entitled "Before The Flood," will also be shown during the event. The climate change scientist, Katharine Hayhoe, will also be at the publicized talk. "Before The Flood" being shown during the event marks the U.S. debut of the documentary. It was directed by Fisher Stevens and shows DiCaprio's international campaign to raise awareness regarding climate change.

New York Daily News reported that DiCaprio has been promoting environmental awareness since the 90s. In 1998, he established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which is a non-profit organization promoting environmental awareness. In 2001, he was given the Martin Litton Environment Award and in 2003, he was given the Environmental Leadership Award.

Just this year during the Oscars, DiCaprio won the Best Actor award for the film "The Revenant." During his acceptance speech, he talked about climate change. He shared during that time, "Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating."

He asked the listeners to support leaders worldwide who speak for the humanity regarding the effects of climate change.

The other events for the South by South Lawn will include panels regarding technology, sustainable food, and innovation. There will also be performances by The Lumineers, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and DJ Beverly Bond. The case of "Stranger Things" is also expected to appear.
