Sony Xperia News & Updates: Android 7.0 Nougat Coming In October, Skips Xperia E5

Android progenitor Google released the latest version of the operating system last month, the Android 7.0 Nougat, and brands have been hustling to get the update to their devices after it first released to Google Nexus devices; brands like Sony, which is going to be releasing the Android 7.0 Nougat to its Xperia devices next month.

NDTV's Gadgets 360 reported the news that the new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system will be coming to Sony's Xperia devices, based on information provided the Slovakian website MojAndroid. Sony apparently revealed the plan to incorporate the Android 7.0 Nougat to its Xperia family of smartphones at its recent press conference in Slovakia.

Sony will first institute the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware update to two current primary major devices in the Xperia family; the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Performance. The Android 7.0 Nougat will hit the Xperia devices sometime in October, with a release of the firmware update coming later to Sony's other Xperia smartphones in monthly increments.

November will see the Android 7.0 Nougat hitting the Xperia X and the Xperia X Compact models, with the following month of December allowing the update to hit the more of the current Xperia family: the Xperia Z6, the Xperia Z3+, and the Xperia Z4 Tablet. The Xperia XA and the Xperia Ultra will be able to update to the new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system in 2017, probably January if the monthly pattern continues.

Though it seems not all Xperia users can look forward to the Android 7.0 Nougat update as Sony seems to be neglecting some of the members its device user base, and the reason does not seem to be based on a specific device' datedness. The Xperia E5 smartphone, which launched at the same time as the Xperia E5 this year, is excluded just like the older Xperia Z4 despite the fact that the Z4 is simply a variant of the Z3+.
