Surfing Champ Bethany Hamilton & Husband Adam Dirks Welcome First Son Tobias [Photo]

In a report from People, Hamilton and husband, Adam Dirks, welcomed their first born, baby Tobias, on Monday by posting a photo on Twitter. In the photo, the proud and happy parents were staring at their little one.

The child was named after his great grandfather, Tobias. The name means, "the goodness of God."

Baby Tobias weighs 7 lbs., 9 oz., and measures 12 inches long, People notes.

It was in February when Hamilton announced that she is expecting a baby boy. In a separate report from People, the surfing champ said, "We have a little surprise for you ... baby on board!"

Hamilton lost her left arm in a shark attack in 2003; she is aware that she will be taking care of his son with one arm. However, she admitted that sometimes she forgets about it.

Hamilton said in her earlier interview with People, "I've been thinking about it, but I often forget that I have one arm."

She added, "When I think about it, a squirming baby and changing the diaper ... I think how I live life, just adjust and adapt to different things, especially things that are a lot easier with two arms."

Despite the difficulties, Hamilton is open to learning new things to effectively cater her son's needs.

She told People, "There's going to be things that will be very challenging with one arm, but I'll just have to find my own way to take care of this baby. Of course, I'll have Adam to help, but if he's out and about busy, I'll have to ... figure it out and be creative."

During the pregnancy, Hamilton never stopped surfing. She did not allow her growing belly to stop her from doing the usual stuffs she does. However, on March she told People, "It's such a weird feeling to be surfing in the ocean while my baby is moving around inside me. It's a cool feeling, but I noticed my balance is a little off and I fall more, so I'm having to focus."

Dirk, a youth minister, shared the same excitement in doing his daddy duties. Dirk admitted that he is looking forward to be with Hamilton and their son in the beach. However, Dirk will most likely be staying on the shore with their tyke, while Hamilton is out riding the waves.
