Scott Baio's Wife Renee Diagnosed With Brain Tumor, Actor Seeks Prayers: 'My Wife is My Rock'

It's the kind of news no devoted husband would not like to learn, much less announce to the public. This week, former "Charles In Charge" star Scott Biao, 54, posted an emotional announcement on his Facebook page. He sadly revealed that his wife, Renee, 46, has been diagnosed with meningioma brain tumor.

"Although 90% of these type of tumors are benign they can cause serious problems depending on the size of the tumor and the location. We are waiting to learn the exact location to see if it's operable," Baio wrote. He then requested his followers and fans to pray for Renee. "My wife is my rock. She refuses to even shed one tear, nor will she question God's will."

Renee's condition is one of the most common types of brain tumor that can occur in women between the ages of 40 to 70. Its cause and formation is largely unknown, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, yet there are many risk factors, such as exposure to radiation or an inherited condition. Just like Scott said, the tumor is not cancerous in most cases, but it can still bring about complications or even death. Sometimes, there are even no symptoms, but depending on the extent of the tumor and how much of the brain it has been affected, the patient could exhibit headaches, seizures, a decrease in mental function and general weakness of the body.

Rock artist Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with the same condition back in 2012, according to E! Online, but thankfully, her condition is non-life threatening. The Baios, meanwhile, are still awaiting further diagnosis from the doctors. But Scott is hopeful, "Renee, Bailey and I will get through this and along the way maybe help educate others to get checked out (MRI with contrast) as 6500 people each year," he also wrote on Facebook.

Married for seven years, Scott and Renee have a daughter, Bailey, 7. Back in 2007, the Baios also had to hurdle through their daughter's health condition because she was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder and thus may have special needs, according to Daily Mail. The young girl went through a series of tests for glutaric acidemia type 1, but the family was able to survive this health crisis. Today, Bailey is managing. "She's always dancing, always singing...she's a creative kid," said Scott via US Weekly.

Following Scott's message, Renee also thanked her well-wishers through her husband in another Facebook post. "A meningioma brain tumor is just a small bump in the road compared to the trials & tribulations my spec needs kids live," she said.
