Elton John Welcomes Baby No. 2

Musical legend Elton John is a proud new dad. The 65-year-old singer and his partner David Furnish welcomed their second child, a baby boy on Jan. 11.

The couple named their son Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John. The new addition, who was born via surrogacy, weighed 8 pounds and 4 ounces. Elijah will be joining two-year-old Zachary Jackson Levon.

The couple confirmed the news to U.K.'s Hello! magazine.

"Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable. The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way," the couple told Hello! "It is difficult to fully express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement."

John married German recording engineer Renate Blauel in 1984. Revealing his homosexuality, he later split with Blauel in 1988. John, who started playing piano at age three, started his relationship with Furnish, now a filmmaker, in 1993.

Last year, John expressed his wish to have more children to avoid the difficulties his son Zachary would most probably have to face as a single child.

"I think it's difficult to be an only child, and to be an only child of someone famous," John, who was the only child of his parent's unhappy marriage, told The Guardian in June 2012. "I want him to have a sibling so he has someone to be with. I know when he goes to school there's going to be an awful lot of pressure, and I know he's going to have people saying, 'You don't have a mummy.' It's going to happen. We talked about it before we had him. I want someone to be at his side and back him up. We shall see."

In November 2012, John announced expecting a second child through the same surrogate, who was reportedly selected through the Center for Surrogate Parenting in Encino, California, and who gave birth to their first son Zachary.

John, who has 10 godchildren, had initiated to adopt a 14-month-old boy named Lev from an AIDS orphanage in Ukraine in 2009. But citing his age and marital status, authorities refused to proceed with the adoption process.
