'Overwatch' Latest News, Updates: New Heroes, Maps, Game Types Officially Confirmed?

In the latest of Blizzard's developer updates, "Overwatch's" game director Jeff Kaplan gave the "Overwatch" community a tantalising taste of what's to come in the blockbuster team shooter. Some of these "Overwatch" changes from Blizzard, fans will be happy to hear, are just around the corner.

The update focused on popular requests as made by the "Overwatch" community. While part of the "Overwatch" presentation focused on character balance tweaks and servicing the demands of the rapidly growing eSports world, Jeff Kaplan also gave indications of planned new content incoming.

According to Jeff Kaplan, among the several new "Overwatch" heroes being experimented with, one in particular is currently being play tested internally by Blizzard. This is one "Overwatch" change that will be released "sooner rather than later."

Given that there is heavy speculation that links to this year's Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, which is just around the corner, Blizzard is believed to introduce the much spoken about Sombra. This may be an indirect allusion of Sombra entering into the "Overwatch" heroes roster as Parent Herald reports.

Another "Overwatch" hero that is said by Jeff Kaplan to be close to being fully realised by Blizzard is currently in the prototype stages. Interestingly, Jeff Kaplan highlighted that this is one "Overwatch" hero that he and the team at Blizzard are quite happy with. According to Jeff Kaplan, this "Overwatch" hero is one they hope will be released after the end of this year.

Also mentioned are several new "Overwatch" maps being worked on at various stages of experimentation. One of these is well past the "should we, shouldn't we" phase.

Happily, the new "Overwatch" map is in the art and design stages - meaning close to completion. Jeff Kaplan revealed that this new "Overwatch" map is also close to release.

Along with new "Overwatch" maps, are experiments with new game types that the team will hope to bring to the game when they are at the high quality level of the rest of the game. Here's hoping for a MOBA type game mode for Overwatch.

"Overwatch" is currently available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Which "Overwatch" update are you waiting for?
