Miley Cyrus vs 'Supergirl': 'Wrecking Ball' Singer Believes CW Show's Title Is A Problem, Showrunner Slams Singer

Singer and current "The Voice" coach, Miley Cyrus, made it known that she is not in favor of the show "Supergirl" being called as such. After her comments made rounds online, the executive producer of the CW hit series slammed her statements against the title of the show.

Cyrus said in a recent interview with Variety that it was unfair for the main character of the show, Kara, to be called a girl. She shared that she a show with a gender attached to it is weird for her and calling the woman on the show a girl is not okay. She added, "What if you're a little boy who wants to be a girl so bad that this makes you feel bad? I think having a title like Supergirl doesn't give the power that people think it does."

Teen Vogue reported that calling "Supergirl" as such has been an issue in the past but it has been explained by the creators of the show that they did not mean it as an insult but a representation of the comical character who has been around for a long time now.

The executive producer of "Supergirl," Andrew Kreisberg, said in a statement on Tuesday that they are standing by the title of their CW series. He pointed out that "Supergirl" is a based on a pre-existing property called Supergirl and that they worked hard in the early part of their freshman season to address the matter to the point that they had Kara, the main character, lament about not being called Superwoman.

Cat Grant, another important character in "Supergirl," then defended being called a girl is not at all offensive, Entertainment Weekly reported. She said that there is nothing wrong with being called a girl because she herself is a girl, Kara's boss, powerful, rich, hot and smart, as per her description of herself. She also told Kara that if she perceives "Supergirl" as anything less than excellent, then the problem is not with the superhero but with the person undermining the superhero's capabilities.

Cyrus has not yet commented on the rebuttal of Kreisberg regarding "Supergirl" as the title of the CW show.
