Danny Gokey Welcomes First Child

American Idol season eight finalist Danny Gokey is a new dad.

The 32-year-old singer and wife Leyicet Peralta welcomed their first child, a baby boy on Sunday.

The newborn, Daniel Emanuel Gokey, weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces at birth. The new parents confirmed the news to People magazine.

"Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I'm ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with," Gokey told People magazine.

During the birth announcement, the proud dad also expressed his excitement and happiness over the new addition's arrival.

"Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!" he added to the magazine.

Later, Gokey took to his Twitter account to share his happiness.

"Its Official, I'm a daddy!!! :)" he wrote.

Messages from fans and well-wishers have been pouring into the new dad's website since he shared the news on Twitter.

"Congratulations, Daddy!!!! All my best to you and your wife and brand new baby son for a happy healthy life together!!!" one of the followers wrote.

Gokey lost his first wife of 12 years, Sophia Martinez, after she experienced complications while undergoing a surgery conducted to treat her congenital heart disease in 2008. In 2009, Gokey met Peralta, and they tied the knot in 2012. The couple announced pregnancy in July 2012.

"Hey guys I'm happy to announce that my wife Leyicet Gokey and I are having a baby!! She a little over 3 months pregnant & due in January!!! We're so excited!!" Gokey wrote, while announcing the news on Facebook.
