Sarah Jessica Parker On Her Relationship With 'Iron Man' Star Robert Downey Jr: It Teaches Her To Be A Good Parent

From 1984 to 1991, Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. dated. And it seems that this relationship was a "parenting" training rather than an actual relationship.

 In an interview, the "Sex and the City" actress said that the relationship taught her how to love and "a little bit about being a parent, too." She said that how she cared for Robert Downey Jr. was like that of how a parent would take care of her child, according to Entertainment Weekly,

The "Divorce" star said she learned a lot from her relationship with Robert Downey Jr. that she could use in raising her children. Robert Downey Jr. struggled with alcoholism and drug abuse during their time together.

Sarah Jessica Parker, who is now a mother of a teenager and 7-year-old twins, said that the relationship taught her how to let go of relationships, and how she develop her coping mechanism.

 The relationship had somehow affected her parenting to her kids. The "Iron Man" actor and the "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" actress became a thing when they were co-stars in a 1984 movie "Firstborn," in which they played Lee and Lisa, respectively.

Sarah Jessica and Robert had a seven-year relationship tainted with Downey's drug abuse and alcoholism according to Vanity Fair. Downey, who also confessed that throughout their relationship, Sarah Jessica Parker supports him even provided him shelter despite his drinking and drug addiction. The "Avenger: Age of Ultron" actor only had praises for Sarah Jessica Parker saying the actress understood him at his most trying time.

Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker split in 1991. Sarah Jessica Parker is now married to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" actor Matthew Broderick.

After sobering up, the "Sherlock Holmes" actor married twice. He was married first to Deborah Falconer but broke up and on 2005 he married his current wife Susan.
