Parenting News & Updates: Want To Raise Smart Kids? Here's What Parents Ought To Do

Proud parents are seen boasting about their kids' academic achievements, their degrees and their famous schools. And why shouldn't they? Who doesn't want success? Everyone does. Intelligence or smartness is the one main thing that can win a person a lot of success in life. Looks and attractiveness is not always promised but then they aren't always needed either, at least not in school and college life.

Intelligence can be explained as the capability to alter past failures and repeating ways of winning used in the past, in order to gain more success in life. Forming newer and better solutions to problems, to bag more opportunities, is also a sign of intelligence.

Every individual has a different expression of intelligence. Some may have great IQ scores while others may possess creative and emotional intelligence, even athletic potential. So basically intelligence can't be calculated on a general level. It varies widely. Psychologists say that if a person is able to master a wholly new situation and adapt to it easily then that person may be called "intelligent."

According to US News, humans may have 25,000 genes but that doesn't mean that all are working at the same time or at all. Some are turned on and some off. There are different deciding factors on the basis of which these genes are turned on and off at certain times. First, there is the mom's experiences and what she consumes before conception and also during the gestation period.

Adequate amounts of nutrients need to be taken to switch on genes and to enable maximum development of the brain. Thus, food has a huge effect on a baby's genes. Hormonal balance in a pregnant woman is also very important.

For example high amounts of the stress hormone, cortisol and testosterone may suppress the development of some of the left hemisphere's functions. Similarly, right hemisphere may have a setback due to oestrogen, which comes, in toxic amounts, from plastic products in the surroundings.

It is commonly observed that children with left hemisphere dominance struggle less academically but may face problems in social life. The case is reversed where there is right hemisphere supremacy, such children may be quite socially active and imaginative but they might face a hard time in school.

After birth, genes are effected by experiences and surroundings. According to the Scientific American, the amount of stress taken, management of emotions and healthy connection with at least one person are prominent deciding factors for the activeness of genes. A healthy connection is very important.

This may ensure the strengthening of nerve cells, which can then accommodate more traffic and manage it. DNA synthesis is said to be more active as well. Such connections last for a lifetime unless a traumatic brain injury occurs.

Aside from all this, there are other ways to bring out a kid's inner genius. Parents should encourage and motivate their children to keep on striving for the best. They should be taught that failure isn't a setback but an opportunity to take a step forward. Most successful persons fail at times as well and there's nothing wrong in it.

Wrong is to not stand up again. Allowing children to learn from their mistakes and helping them do so also build strong brain connections that last forever. It's not so hard. Every child may become a superhero in his own way if his confidence is kept intact via motivation and encouragement.
