Donald Glover Will Play As Lando Calrissian, Han Solo 'Star Wars Movie'; Big Shoes To Fill According To Directors

Donald Glover is Lando Calrissian. It's official!

Casting for the upcoming untitled Han Solo "Star Wars" movie is ongoing but officials made another crazy announcement.

IGN posted a tweet in their official Twitter page a photo of none other than the “Atlanta” actor Donald Glover with the caption: Donald Glover has officially been cast as Lando Calrissian in the young Han Solo Star Wars movie!

Donald Glover is an acclaimed actor, writer, and Grammy-nominated artist. Glover will play the iconic character Lando Calrissian, originally played by actor Billy Dee Williams in “The Empire Strikes Back” and Return of the Jedi. The prospect of seeing these two characters together again on-screen is enough to get "Star Wars" fans all sorts of crazy excited!

Donald Glover will be starring opposite Alden Ehrenreich, who is the new Han Solo, the famous smuggler in the still-untitled movie. The movie is scheduled for a 2018 release.

“These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever,” says directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller in an official statement.

Several actors were considered for the role of Calrissian. In fact, casting for the roles has been going on for months with actors such as Yahya Abdul-Mateen, the “Straight Outta Compton” actor Jason Mitchell, and O’Shea Jackson, son of rapper Ice Cube. Donald Glover was considered an early favorite along with Jason Mitchell.

To finalize their decision, co-directors Lord and Miller conducted a second round of tests earlier this month with the two. Glover was eventually tapped for the role.

As if the announcement of a new "Star Wars" spin-off/stand-alone movie couldn’t be any more exciting, Glover’s casting is crazy awesome news. Are you excited for the to-be-named "Star Wars" movie? Leave your comments in the box below.
