Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles 2’ Gets Earlier Release Date; Bad News For ‘Toy Story 4’ Fans

Fans of Pixar's highly anticipated animated films, "The Incredibles 2" and "Toy Story 4," have received both good and bad news this week. The production company recently announced that the two movies are swapping release dates.

The long-awaited "The Incredibles 2" will now bow in theaters on June 15, 2018, while "Toy Story 4" is slated for a June 21, 2019 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Disney insiders said that the swapped release dates were caused by "an accelerated production schedule" for "The Incredibles 2."

The original "The Incredibles" film helmed by Brad Bird bowed in theaters in 2004, with Samuel L. Jackson, Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Jason Lee, Spencer Fox, and Sarah Vowell as its voice cast. The movie grossed more than $633 million globally and $70.4 in domestic theaters.

Details about "The Incredibles 2" are still scarce but it was already reported that the sequel will be directed once again by Bird. The first teaser photo for the follow-up was revealed in August 2015 at Disney's annual convention. Check it out below.

"Toy Story 4," on the other hand, will see the return of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as the voices behind Woody and Buzz, respectively, with Patricia Arquette playing a hippie mom, ScreenCrush reported. The movie will revolve around a romance between Woody and Bo Peep (Annie Potts) and will be penned by "Angie Tribeca" star Rashida Jones and her creative partner Will McCormack.

"Toy Story 3" was released on June 18, 2010 and still remains as the highest-grossing Pixar film. The flick earned a whopping $1.1 billion globally, according to Variety.

The new release date of "The Incredibles 2" will put the movie between the releases of "Transformer 6" and "Jurassic World 2." "Toy Story 4," meanwhile, is between untitled DC Comics film and "Transformers 7." The mid-June release date is a staple for many Pixar movies, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Pixar, which was bought by Disney, is known for being careful when it comes to making sequels to their well-loved films. But they have introduced follow-ups in recent years as evident in "Finding Dory," "Cars 3," and "Monsters, Inc." Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed "The Incredibles 2" in March 2014, a whole decade after the original film was released.
