Instagram Suspends Pregnant Fitness Star Brittany Perille Yobe After Displaying Bare Belly In A Workout Video

Instagram may be tolerant over body-baring photos and videos of fitness inspiration stars, but it seems that the popular social media platform is less lenient when pregnancy enters the picture. Pregnant fitness star Brittany Perille Yobe got suspended from Instagram after posting a workout video displaying her growing belly.

The 27-year-old trainer's Instagram page was suspended last Thursday for "nudity" after she showed off her six-month-pregnant belly in an exercise video. The clip showed Perille lifting weights while wearing a sports bra and yoga pants, displaying her bare belly full-on. Watch Perille's workout video on Instagram here.

Perille said in an interview with People that she shared plenty of exercise videos wearing sports bras and yoga pants before, but her recent workout clip was different because it was the first video where she shared her new, "mommy-to-be body." She was "confused and shocked" about why Instagram suspended her account, adding that she can't comprehend how the video violated the site's community guidelines of "no nudity."

Perille said that her six-month-pregnant belly was probably "too much for Instagram to handle." The Oxnard, California-based fitspo has nearly one million followers on the social media platform.

Perille also shared how she began receiving body shaming comments from her Instagram followers since she announced her pregnancy. Before her pregnancy, some users told Perille that she was "too muscular" and "too shredded." But now, some people are criticizing her for being "too big," "too pregnant," and "too out of shape" to be posting workout photos and videos showcasing her bare belly.

Perille thinks she has a good grasp about what caused the negativity she received. She believes that plenty of people are still programmed to "think women are 'out of shape' and handicapped while being pregnant."

"Being pregnant doesn't mean you have to be ashamed of your always changing growing body and it surely doesn't mean stopping all exercising my body was conditioned to do before getting pregnant," Perille continued, as quoted by People.

Perille's Instagram is back up now but the time when her page was shut down impacted her business and career. She revealed that the online sales of her Glute Guides program stopped and her Instagram's "permanently deactivated" status made her lose her sponsorship with Legion Athletics Supplement Company.

This wasn't Perille's first brush with Instagram's guidelines. In April, the site removed one of her pre-pregnancy photos for not adhering to their community guidelines. At the time, Perille said that there were "some jelly people" who reported her Instagram post.
