‘Bones’ Season 12 Spoilers & Premiere Date: Sully Bringing Trouble To Brennan & Booth’s Marriage? Epic Serial Killer Plot Teased

An official premiere date has been set for "Bones" Season 12, the crime procedural drama series' final season. Viewers will be reunited with Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel), Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), and the rest of the "Bones" crew on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at 9/8c on Fox.

The 12-episode "Bones" Season 12 will bring back "fan-favorite guest stars and squinterns, as well as an old flame from one of the team's past," TVLine reported from a press release issued by Fox. The past romance alludes to Tim "Sully" Sullivan (Eddie McClintock), who last appeared for four episodes in "Bones" Season 2 as Brennan's short-lived love interest.

In Season 2 of "Bones," Sully worked with Brennan in a case while Booth is seeing a therapist. The two, however, broke up because Brennan wasn't ready to take the next step with Sully, which involves sailing with him to the Caribbean in a boat named after her.

Booth and Brennan's marriage "will be put to the test" in "Bones" Season 12, according to a report from Deadline. Does Sully have something to do with the married couple's struggles?

The final "Bones" season will also showcase a wedding. Viewers will witness an "epic killer storyline" in Season 12 as well and "a new undercover mission set at a lumberjack competition," TVline further reported.

The final season of "Bones" will "celebrate the inventive series and bring the storylines of Brennan, Booth, and the Jeffersonian-FBI team to a close, allowing the show's loyal fans to say goodbye to these indelible characters." "Bones" creator Hart Hanson said in a statement that the series' feat of being Fox's longest-running scripted drama was partly brought upon by "an insanely loyal, loud, lovely, lively audience."

Veteran actors and Emmy winners Ed Asner and Hal Holbrook will guest star in the farewell season of "Bones." Asner will appear in episode three of Season 12 as Mike Mancuso, a "slippery, deceptive and duplicitous wise guy" who appears as a kind man on the outside, according to a separate report from TVLine. Holbrook is portraying Red Fletcher, a Marine Corp veteran "who possesses a strong and silent demeanor" like Booth.
