Kara DioGuardi Welcomes Son via Gestational Surrogate

Kara DioGuardi is a proud new mom.  The singer-songwriter and husband Mike McCuddy welcomed their first child, son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy, Thursday, Jan. 31.

The new addition, who was born via gestational surrogate, weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces at birth, People magazine reported.

The mom-to-be, waiting impatiently for her baby's arrival, had earlier shared her excitement on Twitter.

"Beautiful day in la. Everywhere I go I see babies," DioGuardi wrote Jan. 20.

Reading the singer's mind, one follower wrote: "You'll have little Greyson in your arms soon. So happy for you, Mama!"

After dating for nearly two years, DioGuardi became engaged to McCuddy in 2008.The couple tied the knot the following year. The American Idol judge and her husband were trying to conceive for a long time. After failing to conceive naturally, the 42-year-old musician opted for IVF treatment. However, the multiple efforts of the couple to have babies via IVF treatment also ended in failure.

'I'd like to have a baby. I'm trying to work that one out. I don't know - I've been having a lot of sex but it's not working!" she told Daily Mail in 2011.

They then decided to seek the help of a gestational surrogate.

"We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate. I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked," the mom-to-be told People magazine, referring to the surrogate as a "gem" behind the "incredible gift."

According to a Daily Mail report, the couple hired the surrogate for $100,000.
