'Angry Birds 2' Announced: Characters Redesigned, Launch Scheduled For July 28

After a six-year wait, Rovio has finally announced that "Angry Birds 2" is under development.

The second title for the franchise is expected to be announced on July 28. IGN reports that by way of a promotional teaser, the sequel will offer games a "bigger, badder, birdier" gameplay experience.

The promotional picture just writes the mentioned motto above a group of Angry Birds and under the graphic image, all it says is announcement will be going down in San Francisco on July 28, 2015. It also promises, "More Details to Come."

Upon the release of the much-loved video game, Rovio hit a home-run with the game as millions upon millions downloaded the game and a slew of variations of the colorful birds were released to the public.

For those who have been living under a rock for the better part of a decade, the game is quite simple, players have a limited number of tries to slingshot the different colored birds over towers that are populated by pigs. The goal is to topple the structure with as little attempts as possible.

However, Forbes does not that Rovio has got a lot going on with its Angry Birds franchise and the site notes,:

"...the addition of the number "2″ to the Angry Birds title shouldn't be underestimated. This could tie in with the Angry Birds movie, and theLego Angry Birds kits announced at Comic Con.

Rovio have avoided doing this through 14 different Angry Birds titles, each of which could easily have been numbers: Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Go! and Angry Birds Star Wars."

In an earlier article, IGN also noted that last year, the Finland-based mobile developer and publisher, saw a nearly 75% drop in profits. "On the consumer product side, 2014 was not a satisfactory year," quoted the publication of Rovio CEO Pekka Rantala. "However, the upcoming Angry Birds feature film is getting very positive reactions from major retail and license partners as well as from consumer focus groups. This will have a positive impact on licensing in the coming years."

As part of the franchise's expansion, "Angry Birds" the movie is due to hit cinemas on May 20, 2016. The movie is directed by Clay Kaytis and is based on a script developed by "The Simpsons" writer, Jon Vitti.
